Add Your Back Half In...
We can’t see it and often we don’t feel it until it screams at us, our back. Beneath the surface of the back are bones that offer us support and important muscles that connect the body and contribute to playing movement. Adding the back into your awareness can free the breath and arm movement among other things.
Today, notice your back, your other half. Things you can notice:
The movement that takes place in your back as you move your arms.
Breathing movements! There are ribs in the back as well as the sides and front that move as we breathe.
Be aware of how your back interacts with your shirt as you play.
This is valuable practice time that will come back into your playing. Adding your back half will make you whole, we need the whole body to play with exquisite expression.
