Awake & Alive
Today, let’s integrate the cues we have used this week. As we prepare to play, we will systematically combine the cues.
As you prepare to play…
Become aware of your contact with the ground, floor, and instrument.
Hold your instrument with just enough effort.
As you are aware of contact, equalize the tripods on the bottom of your feet.
As you feel the contact and tripod, notice your visual focus and the peripheral area of your visual field.
Notice what it is like to be preparing to play with these senses awake and alive in the moment.
Deliver instrument or hands to the instrument and play.
Reflect and notice if anything was different. The difference may be in the movement of air, breathing, how you delivered instrument, arms, embouchure, coordination, or it may be in several of these areas. Some people may find this overwhelming at first, be curious and observe. Just notice.
Sprinkle this routine through your practice or set it up every time you prepare to play. Believe it or not, you are affecting the way you move by including the senses. Today, follow your curiosity!
