Where do you find inspiration for your playing, your art, your life?
Inspiration is almost magical. It seems to appear, sometimes when we least expect it and from places, we don’t expect to receive it. You can’t look for it, you have to be aware and curious to receive it.
As I thought about the tremendous inspiration I am enjoying at the moment, I googled inspiration and found this definition from the Arkadin Blog Team.
Truly inspiring people share two fundamental qualities: they believe in themselves and they believe in others. But they also share other critical traits that make those around them want to be better, reach further, leap higher.
This is absolutely true when I look at where I receive inspiration these days. I also recognize that as I have grown to believe in myself more fully, my teaching and music-making have become even more powerful, maybe even inspirational.
I find so much inspiration when I step beyond my comfort zone. You may have guessed, Parkour is an important catalyst here. Being coached by great Parkour coaches (you all know who you are), exploring the environment with people who believe in the possibility that I can do something new or tricky, and facing fear on a daily basis forces me out of my cozy comfort zone, as it inspires me to take chances.
The latest addition to my skill inspired by Flute Playing, Body Mapping, Parkour is the addition of a Personal Training Certification. I am 54% through the material and LOVING it. More inspiration for me and for those I work with.
These powerful experiences in turn help me to push people beyond their comfort zone to uncover a more complete sense of self.
This week, keep your senses open for inspiration, maybe from places you least expect it. May you find more of yourself and inspire those around you.
Be curious…
