Fine-Tuning Point of Contact
Have you ever felt the instance where a key contacts the tone hole? Where the piano key motion stops? Where valve motion stops? Where the string meets the fingerboard?
We are going to tune into ‘point of contact’ moments today. This will help us to fine-tune technique and identify a “just right” amount of effort. Think Goldilocks…
Practice fine-tuning this awareness throughout your practice. You can do this by periodically taking a few minutes to slow down the tempo and notice the moments where contact takes place. You will find that your awareness is more discerning when you go back to playing at regular speed.
What is new? Does a particular finger overwork in the passage? Here’s your chance to fine-tune and find just enough effort!
Sprinkle this exercise throughout your practice. Be curious…
