Your hip joints are the largest joint in your body and they happen to be approximately halfway between the top of your head and the bottom of your feet.
At this intersection of the upper and lower body lie a lot of muscles, which makes it a fairly commonplace to hold tension. Some common scenarios: low back hurts - hip joints brace, tight shoulders when you move your arms - hip joints brace, knee or foot dysfunction - hips joints brace.
Freeing the hip joints is a powerful game-changer for breathing, arm movement, head balance, and to be grounded.
Today, let’s mobilize the hip joints. We are going to use gentle easy movement to see what changes in our playing as we move. My initial inquiry is, “what is it like to make sound as I move here?” I expect that this may feel unstable, weird and it may mess up your coordination but at the same time you might discover a better way to contact the instrument, easier breathing, more subtle embouchure movement, and more. Be curious, see what you uncover. Check out this video for hip joint movements for both sitting and standing…
