Liberate the Foot, Open Up Your Sound
Your feet are amazing! On the bottom of each foot, you have over 10,000 sensory receptors which allow you to sense the ground and tension. Add to this the fact that how you relate to the ground determines a lot about how you can or cannot move. Arm movements to finger movements to vocal fold movements are all affected.
We explored the tripod’s roll in connecting to the ground, now let’s open up the feet awakening their ability to sense and set our foundation.
Today we are going to open the feet using a tennis ball. If you can’t find a ball, try a can for your pantry.
The video below shows you how I like to roll out the feet.
Once you have rolled out your feet notice changes in how you feel the floor. Notice if you can find the tripods more easily. Notice what it is like to play as you feel your feet on the ground. Be curious!
One more idea - what is it like to roll your foot on the ball as you play?
