The Parkour community has taught me the value of having an AMAZING support network in thelearning process.Â
Members come to practice with different strengths and weaknesses. We are all participating in the learning process at different levels. From bouncing ideas off of one another to sharing fears or hearing how others face challenges we grow together. The only comparison we do is how to get a move even more fluid.Â
It is amazing to be cheered on when you finally get something for the very first time or receive the support that comes when you fall short. Sharing blows open your perspective while insights break down challenges in new ways. There is always someone I can look to to see the next step in the progression of movement.
One of my favorite things is that we all end together, we don’t leave others behind if they take more time or are at the end of the line. One by one we assume a plank position, half squat or boat pose as we wait for others to finish. We don’t relax or go into conversation, we stay engaged.
In life as in music-making, a support network propels personal growth. It is way more fun doing things together and sharing ideas than going it alone.Â
What is your support network like? When is the last time you reached out for feedback, an idea, or insight? Or checked in on a friend to see how they are doing?
By reaching out we can support each other, grow together and leave nobody behind. I strive to create this culture in my teaching and performing. Â
Lean on your support network, grow together. Be curious…
